About ACReSAL
Agro-Climatic Resilience In Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL)
The ACReSAL is a six-year World Bank assisted Project committed to landscapes restoration in Northern Nigeria. The region is characterized by high poverty rates, low literacy, an environment of fragility, conflict, and violence, degradation of natural resources, poor agricultural productivity, climate risks, desertification, poor penetration of modern technology, and weak institutional capacity.
We are here to help you manage your waste removal, regardless of the size of your waste, we will work with you to treat your trash in the best possible way for the environment and our planet.
Key Achievements by Numbers
Tubewells installed across 7 communities for irrigation
Farmers benefitting from farmer-led irrigation in 49 CIGs
Power tillers procured for land preparation
Farmers identified receiving extension services across 6 Area Councils
Forest Guards trained with motorcycles & equipment
Community Management Plans developed; 1 cleared by the Bank
Revolving fund disbursed across 46 CIGs – $25K per CIG
State-of-the-art geospatial lab established at NASRDA
ACReSAL Components
The ACReSAL project components.
Component A: Dryland Management
This component will implement integrated watershed management planning and address challenges of large-scale watershed degradation in northern Nigeria. It consists of the following sub-components:
- strategic watershed planning;
- landscape investments; and
- special ecosystems
Component B: Community Climate Resilience.
This component will support communities in building their capacity to adapt to climate change and enhance their resilience to climate-related shocks and stresses in the Sahel region. It consists of the following sub-components:
- community strengthening; and
- community investments.
- knowledge and innovation sharing.
Component C: Institutional Strengthening and Project Management
This component includes investments to improve the enabling institutional and policy foundation for multisectoral integrated landscape management and climate resilience, as well as support to project management. It consists of the following sub-components:
- institutional and policy strengthening; and
- project management.
What We're Doing
Status/Progress of Project Activities
Transforming landscapes through strategic initiatives designed to Build climate resilience and restore natural ecosystems across Northern Nigeria.
Enrichment planting (32ha) and perimeter fencing of 3 surviving plantations.
Enrichment planting of 200 ha with desirable tree species, at Kuje, and Buga forests.
Establishment of two (hectares) climate smart agricultural demonstration farm in (2) Area Councils.
Identification and formation of Community Interest Groups (CIGs)
